Corazones salados - Savoury hearts

Sigo probando cosas nuevas, esta vez galletas saladas. Unos corazones de queso parmesano, ideales para las fechas que se aproximan. La receta cortesia de Mi dulce tentacion , donde tienen otra con sobrasada.I made my first savoury biscuits last night following this easy recipe from Mi dulce tentacion . I had several heart cutters and played with them all.

Ingredients :

- 220 grms flour
- 1 egg.
- 55 grms grated parmesan cheese.
- a pinch of salt.
- 110 grms cream cheese ( I used Waitrose own brand).

Mix flour, salt and parmesan. Add the egg and finish with the cream cheese.

Work into a dough, forma a ball, cover it with cling film and let it rest in the fridge for two hours.

Roll out to a thinly and cut out your shapes. Place them on a baking tray lined with baking paper and bake on a pre-heated oven at 180 C. for 15 m.

Inspirada por los tutoriales de Momo y Morgana decidi probar a hacerme unos azucarillos acorazonados, para festejar el dia V. El color es natural nada de colorante artificial pues utilize jugo de remolacha hervida. No salieron perfectos, pero para ser la primera vez no me quejo.
Inspired by the tutorials of Wedding Chicks and Lalaloveblog I tried my hand at preparing some heart sugar lumps. Some are a bit wonky, others spent too long in the oven but overall they are OK for a first timer like me. I avoided artificial food colorants by using boiled beetroot juice.

Una produccion de la BBC donde narran la sesion de fotos que David Bailey y Jean Shrimpton llevaron a cabo en Nueva York que marco el principio de los 60s . I wear one daily and I cannot help it but notice when I see one around. This crochet one is the lingering image I have got in my mind after seen the BBC production "We will take Manhattan". Anoche - Last night

Sali a bailar,y baile mucho. Pero... a ratos casi me duermo, y es que la musica escogida por el DJ era monotona,repetitiva y a ratos hasta somnolienta (una opinion compartida por varias personas). Como me hubiera gustado oir algo mas alegre, travieso y jugueton. Un ejemplo ,las milongas de Enrique Rodriguez, La Colegiala o El boulevard de la desilusion, ninguna hace bostezar a nadie (como comentaba J mientras bailabamos). O alguna sorpresa que nos despertara, como esta rumba que recien descubri hace unos minutos. En fin, otra vez sera.

Last night I went tango dancing, and danced a lot. There was something missin in the milonga, we had a new DJ playing what was very danceable music, but... drowwwsy, monooootonous and without any accent whatsoever. You could go to sleep with it, as J said while dancing and mocking a yawn.
How I mised something upbeat, playful like an Enrique Rodriguez milonga or a surprise to keep me on my toes like this rumba I just discovered a few minutes ago. Well there will be more milongas.

Y otras cosas a la vista en la exhibicion "Material Matters" con las obras de los estudiantes del Courtauld Institute of Art . Desde el 20 de Enero hasta Julio del 2013 . Nunca la vi, pero de este año no pasa.

Viene siendo habitual estos dias que los organizadores nos muestren el proceso de creacion de la exhibicion y esta no es menos, en la pagina EastWingX.

Que fui de vacaciones a España y volvi, pero antes participe en el Intercambio Navideño organizado por Sacramento de Mis papelicos y Aminta de Aminta's fashion. Quede emparejada con Tomye de Making Lemonade, quien me envio este paquete/tesoro, con un libro de ganchillo de los 1940s, otro de recetas holandesas de la misma epoca, una bufanda echa por ella misma y varias decoraciones de navidad. Aqui podeis ver mis regalos para Tomye. Un encanto participar y conocer a gente como ellas, gracias a internet.I went to Spain to visit my family over Epiphany. Before that I took part in the Christmas Blogguers Swap organized by Sacramento of Mis Papelicos and Aminta from Aminta's Fashion. I got to partner Tomye from Making Lemonade, who send me this lovely parcel /treasure chest. It contained a couple of lovely vintage books, a crochet one ( a lovely thing full of great projects ) and a dutch cooking which I am sure will find its way to my table. She also knitted me a lovely scarf on my favorite colours blue and green, and send me some Christmas decorations in the form of a bag and a Hersey Chocolate decor whose factory is local to her. A lovely thing to use the blogosphere to get to know people this way.

El sabado a falta de liquido descalcificador , decidi poner en practica un truco que encontre hace tiempo. Utilize vinagre para eliminar las manchas de cal en el fregadero. Empape unas tiras de papel, las puse en la partes afectadas revisando cada hora o asi. Cual no seria mi sorpresa cuando encontre que poco a poco, las fue reduciendo y termino eliminadolas.

I run out of limescale cleaner and wanted to get rid of some marks on my sink. Remembering some tip I read somewhere I decided to use white vinegar on the stains. I put some paper strip soaked on vinegar and let it work, checking them often. To my surprise it started softening them. I took some time but it did the trick, and best of all without the fumes or any worry about damaging the surface. Great.

El domingo tocaba arreglar las macetas de la cocina, que si podar el geranio y recortar los tallos a otras plantas. Me gustan los colores de las flores secas y los use para hacer un arreglo. No van a competir con Jane Packer o los delicados ikebanas japoneses pero estoy en ello. Claro que cuando se trata de ingenio y creatividad, agapi me deja atras en ocasiones. El otro dia me sorprendio con este arreglo/ramo culinario a base de utensilios de cocina.

Yesterday I tidied up the kitchen window plants. I ended up with a few dry flowers and branches, which I used to make some arrangements. The result was far from my admired ikebana or Jane Packer but I keep trying. The idea came after agapi surprised me with a wity kitchen arrangement of unusual components, kitchen utensils.

Animada por el buen resultado que me esta dando la hidratante que hice el mes pasado, hoy he preparado una limpiadora al aceite de coco y oliva. A ver si me hidrata un poco mas mi piel seca mientras la limpia.
Ingredientes:
45 ml coconut oil / aceite de coco
10 g manteca de cacao / cocoa butter
22 ml light olive oil / aceite de oliva suave
25 ml sweet almond oil / aceite almendras dulces
20 drops essential oil of choice , I used geranium for dry & mature skin/ gotas aceite esencial (yo puse geranio, para piel madura y seca)

Preparacion:Derretir el aceite de coco y la manteca de cacao en un bowl al baño maria, mezclar bien y dejar enfriar. Añadir los aceites de oliva y almendra mezclando bien. Dejar enfriar un poco antes de poner el aceite esencial. Guardar en el frigorifico para que dure mas, aunque yo lo puse directamente en el armario del baño.

Encouraged by the results I am getting from my homemade moisturizer, today I prepared a facial oil cleanser. I have got dry skin and it suffers nowdays with sudden changes in temperature indoors and outdoors. How to make :
Melt the cocoa butter and coconut oil over a double boiler or bowl over boiling water. Mix well and let it cool a bit. Add the almond and olive oil, mixing well. Let it cool a bit more before adding the essential oil, mixing again. Pour into containers, storing them in the fridge to ensure freshness. I keep mine in the bathroom as is not too hot there and I like the oil to be very runny.

A ver la exhibicion William Morris : Story, Memory, Mith en la antigua mansion de Lord Astor en el no. 2 de Temple Place. Una aventura para llegar, cruzando manifestaciones y cordones de policia y otra para regresar con un trafico infernal. Pero merecio la pena ver los tapices, bordados, azulejos, papeles, etc no solo de Morris, sino colaboraciones de Burne-Jones y Rosetti, entre otros. La exhibicion traza la influencia de literatura en la obra de William Morris, con piezas inspiradas en los textos de Chaucer, la leyenda de Arturo, mitologia griega y sagas islandesas. Mi favorito el tapiz bordado Pomona.

Hasta el 29 de Enero.

No hay dos sin tres y ayer prepare otro licor en casa, esta vez de almendras, Amaretto, . Es rapido de preparar y esta listo para beber en el momento, solo con hielo, en cocteles (recetas en el enlace) o para preparar un tiramisu.

Ingredientes:
220 ml agua/water 200g azucar/sugar
100 g demerara azucar/sugar 35 ml vodka
50 ml essencia natural almendras / natural almond essence
10 ml estracto natural vainilla / natural vanilla extract

Hervir el agua y añadir los azucares, disolver y dejar enfriar.
Añadir el vodka, remover. Añadir las dos esencias mezclando bien.
Embotellarlo. Se puede servir inmediatamente. Agitar bien antes de usar ya que los extractos suelen separarse.

On Sunday I completed a trio of homemade drinks with the preparation of an almond liqueur, Amaretto . A very versatile drink used in cooking and coctels (see the link), that is quick to prepare.

Boil the water, add the sugars. Take off the heat and dissolve the sugar well. Cool off. Add the vodka while stirring, and do the same with the extracts. Stir well and bottle. It can be drank straight away. The extracts separate after a while, give it a shake before using it.

Fui esperando aburrirme y termine viviendo una version de los Autos Locos uno de mis dibujos animados favoritos. El olor a gasolina y el traquetear de motores con mas de 100 años me hacia pensar en como sonarian las calles de Londres alla por los 1900's. Las filas de Mini-Coopers me hacen sonreir, quizas porque me acuerdo de la pelicula "Un trabajo en Italia / The italian job". Admire una vez mas las estilizadas lineas de los Jaguar E-Type . Lo mejor verlos partir para tomar parte en la Londres-Brighton Veteran Car Run. Mas fotos aqui y aqui.

I went expecting a boring outing but I end up living an episode of the Wacky Races cartoon. The smell of gas and sound of old car engines transported me to what a London street must have been during the 1900's. The lines of Mini-Cooper brought me a smile and the multitude of Jaguar E-types had me admiring their lines for ages. Eventually they all left to take part on the London-Brighton Veteran Car Run, what a sight. The funniest bit came then, when we saw another old car making fun of the french stereotype by way of its decoration, a saucisson and some french bread sticks. More photos here and here.

Hace tiempo que andaba queriendo hacer una estrella de origami. La semana pasada me puse manos a la obra, pero me atasque al final. Un par de dias mas tarde y la termine sin problemas. Contenta con esto me puse a hacer cajas, y no se como pero salieron al primer intento.

I tried my hand at making an origami star, but got stuck near the end. Left it resting a couple of days, and that did the trick. I was on a roll and went on to making these boxes.

Gracias a mi ultimo prestamo de la biblioteca 1001 comics you must read before you die. Escrito por un equipo internacional de expertos cubre todo desde Batman a Persepolis. Cunde poco porque es un tocho y cada tres por dos me largo a internet a investigar mas, donde encontre Lambiek Comiclopedia su equivalente en la red . Gracias a el estoy descubriendo historietas como los Upside Downs de Gustave Verbeek, donde dandole la vuelta nos encontramos con el final de la historieta. El realismo y dinamismo Stuff and Nonsense de A B Frost, y tantos otros mas que estoy considerando comprarmelo.

My latest find at the local library 1001 Comic books you must read before you die. This is a bit difficult if you have other interests so the book gives you a sypnosis of the comic and its author which makes the task easier. This is not my case so far , as I keep stopping to check some strips online, this in turn led me to discover Lambiek Comiclopedia an online goldmine for comic fans. The beauty of it is the amount of great stuff I am discovering, like the Upside Downs of Gustave Verbeek, where you have one story one way and its end once the page is turned upside down. Or the dinamic Stuff and Nonsense by AB Frost who illustrated works by Lewis Carroll. I might buy it since I am getting so much enjoyment from it.

I like the funtionality and ingenuity of Furoshiki, the japanese art of wrapping things on cloth. There is a such a feeling of accomplishment in using something for a different purpose than it was originally made for. This book carrier is a beauty in its simplicity.

Hace unas semanas uno de mis escaparates favoritos fue invadido por pinguinos. Hoy la casualidad me llevo a encontrarme con otros por Harrods. Menos mal que alli tuvieron el detalle de poner un cartelito informando del motivo. Parece ser que hace 150 años los sastres Henry Poole & Co de Saville Row crearon el primer Esmoquin .Lately I keep finding penguins and tuxedos on window displays and kept wondering why it was so. Until today when I saw the display organized by the London College of Fashion at Harrods to celebrate the 150 year aniversary of the Tuxedo.

Me gusta la forma como celebran el Dia de los Muertos en Mexico. Todo empezo hace 20 años cuando vi una exhibicion sobre el tema en el Museum of Mankind. Despues de ver este video me he animado y voy a ver que tal se me da el papel picado .

Ever since I went to see a Day of the Death exhibition at the Museum of Mankind I have been fascinated by the way they celebrate in Mexico. I like all that colourful cut paper. I think am going to try my hand at making my own "papel picado", after seeing this inspiring video.

Llevo tiempo queriendo prepararme mi propio champu. Y en mi afan por encontrar recetas he encontrado las de otros productos de belleza. Y como soy una abejita que pica de flor en flor , el sabado pasado prepare mi primer potingue, una hidratante a base de cera de abeja, aceite de almendras, agua de rosas y esencia de geranio.

I am not happy with the way my hair feels after a wash. For a while I have been investigating preparing my own shampoo, and while doing so I came accross some recipes for other beauty products and thought about trying my hand at making them. Last saturday I prepared my first moisturizing cream, with beeswax, almond oil, rosewater and geranium oil. It has a few lumps but overall I am happy with this first attempt.

Ingredientes - Ingredients

1 cs (15 ml) cera de abeja - beeswax

6 cs (6x15 ml) aceite de almendras dulces - Almond oil

1 cs agua de rosas (la receta pedia originalmente agua de azahar) - rose /orange flower water

3 gotas de aceite esencial (yo use geranio) - drops geranium essential oil

Calentar la cera en un bowl sobre agua a hervor suave, removiendo hasta que esta derretida por completo. Apartar y dejar enfriar durante 5 minutos (si no lo haces te saldran grumos como me ocurrio a mi). Añadir el aceite de almendra, la mezcla empezara a espesarse conforme se enfrie y cogera un color crema. Verted el agua de rosas, las gotas de aceite esencial y mezclad de nuevo. Rellenad un tarrito y dejad enfriar media hora en el frigorifico antes de usar.

La mia salio con grumos, y algo espesa de mas pues la cera que use venia en tubitos, dificil de medir y quizas resulto en menos cantidad, la proxima vez me asegurare de que la cantidad es la correcta. Aun asi la he usado en el cuerpo y cara y me gusta como crema de noche .

Heat the wax on a bowl placed over simmering water, stirring until melted. Leave to cool for 5 m. Add the almond oil, stirring to mix it. The mix will thicken and become lighter in colour. Add the water and essential oil, mix again, spoon it into your container and cool in fridge for 30 m before using it.

Un dia de vacaciones en la ciudad. Paseo mañanero de una hora por el parque para despejarme y descubrir este santuario para pajaros, con estatua y piscina incluida. Por la tarde a la Royal Academy para ver la exhibicion de fotografia Eyewitness: Hungarian Photography in the 20th Century . 200 imagenes cubriendo multitud de generos : fotoperiodismo (Capa), documentales (Kertesz, Brassai, Escher, Balogh, Fejes) , fotografia creativa (Moholy-Nagy, Vadas) y de moda (Munkacsi). Interesante a muchos niveles, ademas de descubrirme a artistas pioneros en su campo, ya que exceptuando Capa no conocia a ningun otro, aunque si sus obras, repetire visita. Informacion en castellano sobre la exhibicion y algunos artistas aqui, algunas de las fotos aqui.
De camino al coche nos dimos con Vogue Fashion's Night Out en Bond Street y aprovechamos para visitar alguno de los establecimientos participantes . Las colas para entrar impidieron que echara un vistazo a Chanel y McQueen. Fotos aqui y aqui.

Un impulso repentino me llevo a visitar la exhibicion de Yohji Yamamoto el sabado pasado. Un diseñador que nunca me ha llamado la atencion. Pero fue el leer sobre su predilecion por el negro, la importancia que le da a las telas, la textura y su uso de tecnicas tradicionales japonesas lo que me hizo cambiar de idea. Pase tres horas de lo mas entretenida. Primero en la sala con 60 modelos , y una pared multimedia con 11 pantallas de video, fotos y publicaciones documentando su trayectoria y luego por el museo tratando de encontrar y fotografiar otros 15 desperdigados por otras salas. Lo mas sorprendente los modelos presentados sin proteccion y permitiendo tocar las prendas (algo que lei con antelacion, pero no me atrevi a poner en practica hasta despues de una hora alli, parece ser que era a peticion de Yamamoto). Yo contenta con poder mirar desde cualquier angulo, mas de un vestido quedo mareado de tantas vueltas que les di. Tambien tenian prendas de hombre. Para saber como se organizo la exhibicion mirad el blog de la comisaria de la exhibicion Ligaya Salazar donde documenta el proceso de investigacion, diseño e instalacion de la exhibicion. Aqui unos videos con entrevistas con Yamamoto, sus colaboradores y tecnicas tradicionales japonesas que usa en sus prendas. Aqui mas fotos con los modelos de la sala principal que no pude fotografiar. Last Saturday I went to see the Yohji Yamamoto exhibition, a last minute decission which I really enjoyed .

De todo tipo, colores y estado. Los que encontre en Selfridges la semana pasada. Parte de la campaña "No more fish on the sea, Project Ocean" para concienciarnos sobre el estado actual del mar. Mas imagenes sobre el evento aqui y un video aqui. Por aqui andan unos pendientes de abalorios imitando coral que hice hace tiempo.

There were dead, alive, in so many textures and colours : red, blues, pinks. I l liked all of them. Corals on the windows of Selfridges, part of their campaign "No more fish on the sea? Project Ocean". See how the confiscated coral travelled from London Zoo to Selfridges, on this video. Here there are some beaded earrings I made earlier on, in the shape of corals.

Y recordando que hace una semana, tomaba un martini en el puerto en este barco con estas vistas y compartia espejo con una claraboya.

Mi hermana MC me sorprendio preparando esta cesta para repartir los recuerdos de comunion para mi hermana IM.

No pudo terminarla y me pidio ayuda. Ella forro el asa de la cesta con cinta rosa y blanca, puso el papel rosa y un volante de tul sujetandolo todo con alfileres. Mi parte, cubrir el papel con mas tul drapeado . Termino la cosa un poco sacarina con tanto rosa palido y blanco y decidi ponerle color con estas mariposas de fieltro multicolor de mi sobrina, las ate con hilo transparente a los bordes del volante de tul y listo.

Remembering the last week spent with my family, enjoying a drink on a ship by the harbour, looking at old mirrors reflecting portholes. The best helping my baby sister to craft a basquet to distribute the favours at our niece First Communion celebratory meal.

She got a white basket with a long handle which covered in white and pink ribbon, added a couple of bows of same color on the sides, covered the botton of the basket with pink paper. I drapped white tulle to cover the paper to ensure it didn't break. The edges were addorned with white tulle ruffles, I added a bit of colour to reduce the sacharine effect of pale pink and white with these felt butterflies I got from my niece, reusing an old crafty present I gave her last year.

Una variacion de las temari tradicionales esfericas, esta es un tetraedro. Al igual que las temari la superficie se cubre con hilos de distintos colores tejidos para crear distintos patrones. Encontre unos cuantos tutoriales que pueden ser de ayuda, aqui y aqui en frances mas completo con el patron incluido.

A variation on the traditional temari, the shape is not spherical but a tetrahedron. The surface is covered in coloured thread which is weaved to create different patterns. I found a couple of tutorials to make them.

El domingo nos fuimos a Little Venice a ver el festival de barcazas en el Grand Union Canal. A resaltar el colorido de las barcazas y el uso del ganchillo en la decoracion de su interior.

Sunday saw us going for a walk around the Grand Union Canal enjoying the sight of the boat cavalcade. I am always mesmerized by the colourful barges, this time I also noticed some crochet tpieces in some boats.

Disfrutando de las vacaciones y el buen tiempo que estamos teniendo esta Semana Santa. El jueves picnic en Hyde Park con banda sonora incluida cortesia de la banda que serenaba a la reina con motivo de su cumpleaños. Hoy otro al lado de Tower Bridge en la ribera del Tamesis. Luego paseo para disfrutar de la playita recien construida al lado del complejo Southbank. De alli a Covent Garden terminando en Porterhouse, un pub irlandes con musica en directo.

Spring has finally arrived this year. I have been enjoying this sunny weather with two picnics (Thursday at Hyde Park, today by Tower Bridge) and a walk by the riverside with a beachy theme around the Southbank. The day finished with some Irish music at a pub in Covent Garden.

Debo de tener un radar que hace que termine encontrando cualquier manualidad cercana. Hoy unas bailarinas Chanel con flores de ganchillo aplicadas y un pañuelo Hermes estampado con bolas Temari. Las temaris fue verlas y buscar el modelo que tengo en casa. Today I went out and had my crafty radar on when I found these lovelies. A pair of crochet embedded ballerina flats by Chanel and a Hermes scarf with a Temary balls print. Beautiful but not as much as the real thing I got a while ago.

Creo que he encontrado una pista sobre el origen de mis pulseras de paja trenzada. Encontre esta imagen en un libro de artesania inglesa, investigue in poco y di con estas imagenes. El trenzado es similar al de las pulseras. Se llaman Corn Dollies unas figuras echas con paja al final de la cosecha que se guardaban como talisman hasta la siguiente primavera . Existen algunos tutoriales para los interesados. I think I have found a clue about the origins of my straw bracelets. Looking through some of my old crafts books I came accross Corn Dollies and couldn't help but notice the similarities. I managed to find some instructions to make one here.

Llego el buen tiempo y con el salen mis pulseras de paja trenzada. Un hallazgo de hace unos años en la charity shop del barrio. Fueron mi inspiracion para las que hice hace unos meses con tiras de scoubidou. No se de donde son, una charla de sombrereria en el V & A Museum mencionaba algunos condados britanicos y la Toscana italiana como los principales centros de trenzado de paja en Europa, asi que supongo que de alli seran. Existe aun incluso un gremio de trenzadores de paja, que promueven esta artesania en su pagina web.

Now that the weather is warmer I can start wearing my pleated straw bracelets. A charity shop find that inspired me to try pleating scoubidous and making bracelets . I do not know where they came from, they are probably british or italian according to what I learned from a hat talk I went to at the V&A Museum. There is still a Guild of Straw Craftsmen who promote this and have some projects and tutorials on pleating on the net.

I found them several years ago at a market in Marylebone Village. I tried to find out about the technique without sucess. A few weeks ago I came accross them again at Portobello Green,(one of my favorite corners in Portobello Market) were they are also sold, unfortunately the shop was already closed.
