These days - Estos dias

I am cutting snowflakes to decorate the office at work. Still using t-shirt yarn, making handbags, this is my first one, without the strap/handles, as I have not decided what to add.

Paper Thanks - Gracias de papel

A few days ago I was giving a present and a card to say thank you. It occurred to me to merge them both and this is the result. A "Thank You" message written down with origami letters, in this case the ones from Jo Nakasima found online here.

Hace poco regale algo a modo de gracias, pero pense que quizas seria una buena idea añadir el mensaje al paquete. Pero como mi caligrafia deja algo que desear recorde el alfabeto de origami que creo Jo Nakasima y me puse manos a la obra.

Halloween / Dia de los Muertos

Este año decidi celebrar el dia mezclando  las dos  variedades de la celebracion.
Recorte unas guirnaldas y hornee unas galletas con calaveras,  acompañandolas de unos dedos con masa depretzels.
Para completarlo me disfrace de Catrina, después de ensayar varias veces con unos videos. La cosa llevo su tiempo, pero como lo disfrute. 

This year I went overboard celebrating Halloween and mix it up with “Dia de los Muertos” , which I prefer. I cut a paper garland and baked some biscuits with the skull / calavera theme, I also baked some fingerpretzels.  Finished the whole thing with a Catrina makeup , which I learnt and practised with some online videos. I t was hard work, with some late nights, but such fun.

El robot es de Rob Ives, quien crea animaciones en papel, su pagina web es de lo mas entretenida e imaginativa, Robives.com. Alli podemos comprar libros, kits o bajar algun tutorial. Sus ingeniosos mecanos a papel me encantan.

Thats is what I call a well papered video. Well more like an enjoyable, imaginative and funny video animation made out of paper characters. Rob Ives his creator shares more of his creations online at RobIves.com, where we have his publications, tutorials for sale and also share some of his projects, I love his mechanical creations.

Revoloteando cerca . Es lo que tiene pasar un dia en Brighton y luego visitar la Tate Modern para ver la exhibicion  Matisse The Cut-Outs, que no se puede evitar recortar algo con tema marinero.

 

Flying nearby. After a trip to Brighton Marina and viewing the Matisse Cut-Outs exhibition at Tate Modern, I could not help it and cut something with a certain seaside flavour.

Pajaro en mano - Bird in hand

Y es que me ha dado por los pajaros,  me gustan bastante como tema para mis manualidades. Estos de papel y metal, los hice ayudandome de este tutorial que encontre en Charcoal & Crayons.

Well not exactly, more like birdmaking. I like birds as crafting subjects, they are so cheerful. The top one was my first try, the rest came along the following day, with the help of  this tutorial from Charcoal & Crayons.

Rodeada de corazones - Corazones Galore

Aparte del hecho que mañana es San Valentin, me gustan para decorar. Una excusa ideal para hacer unos, esta vez de papel. Y es que la celebracion no la entiendo como algo solo para parejas, dificilmente se quiere a alguien si no se empieza por uno mismo. Me ayude de  este tutorial para la cadeneta y para los recortes de kirigami.

I like decorating with heart shapes, so tomorrow was an ideal occasion to do some docorating with heart crafts. The paper chains came from here and the cut heart were made with kirigami.

De recortes - Paper cuts

Ocupada decorando la oficina en el trabajo y las paredes del bar de la milonga donde voy los viernes con papel cortado.  Hecho por mi en el caso de los caballos y de origen chino comprados hace unos meses, que por fin se lucen.
Entretenida la tarea de  montar el horoscopo chino de papel de seda sobre cartulina, usando bolitas diminutas de adhesivo en pasta reusable y la punta de unas tijeras. La unica forma que se encontre para que no sufrieran los recortes y se pudieran apreciar bien los detalles.

Busy these last week decorating the office and my dancing venue with paper-cuts, to celebrate the Chinese New Year. I used mostly part of the stash I bought last year but also had a go at making some myself, the three horses at the top.

Carita de rosa - Facing flower fun

Ayer dimos una vuelta por Chelsea. El festival floral de Chelsea termino el dia anterior pero aun quedaban decoraciones por las calles celebrando su 100 aniversario. Con este motivo se organizo Chelsea in Bloom , un concurso de decoraciones florales entre los comercios del area. Y mira por donde a la vuelta nos encontramos con que al lado del coche estaban desmontando unas. Me acerque, entable conversacion con el muchacho de la floristeria quien me conto lo del concurso y le pedi unas macetas.
No quiero cambiarlas de tiesto hasta que esten aclimatadas asi que los forre con recortes de revista pare que tengan mejor pinta.

We saw the Chelsea Flower Show on tv, but got some Chelsea in Bloom souvenirs courtesy of one of the garden centres taking down the display they made for a shop taking part in the competition. I do not want to change their  pots just yet so I had to do something to improve thier look in the meantime. A pair of scissors, some magazines and adhesive tape and this is the result.

Chinese paper cut Art - Recortes chinos

La/os habituales saben que me encantan los recortes de papel e incluso he hecho alguno que otro. Esta vez los compre, estos son  chinos y todo un arte, muy delicados e intrincados. Los encontre en un puesto de la Canalway Cavalcade 2013 el domingo pasado. Ahora a ver si me atrevo a hacer alguno, aunque sea con la ayuda de algun que otro tutorial. Aqui hay muchos donde escoger.

I like papercuts, in any style. I even did my own kirigami hearts a little while ago. This time I bought them , 3 books of beautifully intricate Chinese paper cuts. I found even more intricate ones here and a curious mixture of classic and modern ones on this page.  I came accross them last weekend on one of the stalls in Little Venice while viewing the Canalway Cavalcade 2013. I might try my hand with this butterfly tutorial I found online, or perhaps this traditional double happiness symbol. More tutorials here.

Es el nombre dado en Japon a las flores de cerezo. En casa a falta de cerezos las hago yo con kirigami, doblando el papel en cinco partes como muestra aqui How about orange y cortando los petalos como dicen aqui . A la vista mis primeras sakuras. Mas variedad de flores en este video .

Is the name given to cherry blossoms in Japan. I do not have cherry trees nearby, so instead I am making some paper sakura flowers that I found in "How about orange". There are also some videos with instructions. Above my first blossoms.

Bolsa de periodico(s) - Bag of paper(s)

A menudo me ocure que tengo que hacer algo con mis manos. Y me fustro si no puedo crear algo, lo que sea. El papel suele ser una materia prima siempre a mano. De compras en el  mercado de St Albans  me dieron esta bolsa de periodicos reciclados. Me gusto y hoy con ayuda de este tutorial  de How about orange , me hice esta.

Often I feel I need to create something, and get frustated if I have not made something with my hands. Papercrafts are a good outlet for this as there is always some scrap around. Shopping at St Albans market I got this bag, made of newspaper. I like it and today I made my own one with a bit of help from this tutorial from How about orange .
