Shibori in Portobello
A quick dash around Portobello last Saturday to buy some cotton ribbon ended up with this discovery. While there I came across this gorgeous stall selling Japanese Shibori stuff.

Carnaval 2013
Last Monday I went to see the Notting Hill Carnival parade like I did last year. I enjoy seen such a riot of colour, textures, music and imagination parading on the streets. I went early, placed myself at the beginning of the route and let the colors, music and dance fill me. Three hours went by in a moment and they gave me a high that lasted until the following day.

The fashion editor must be running of space in her wardrobe and is auctioning some clothes online at Christie's. I was running some errands nearby last Saturday and popped in for a look. In my fashion, as is named the collection has a mixture of French and British design, my favourites were the Ossie Clark dresses (I like his fluid line and the prints by his wife Celia Birtwell) and the Bill Gibbs sketches. I might do with my copy of Ms Menkes book Knitwear Revolution and will pass on the auction.

Salida - Going out
To the Royal Academy last Sunday to see their Summer Exhibition. Strolling along Picadilly we found the street decorated with flags commemorating the Queen's Diamond Jubilee, as well as this Lolita who was doing the same with her dress's print, it was full of stamps showing the Queen, the ribbon on her waist mentioned the Jubilee as well. I was surprised to find the Jubilee used as a fashion theme by japanese Lolitas. From the exhibition my favorite piece was the tapestry series "The Vanity of Small Differences" by Grayson Perry. A modern and witty take of a Rake's progress.

I enjoyed the street entertainment and colourful decorations at the Marylebone Summer Fayre last Sunday and the Connaught Street Summer Festival yesterday. The urban version of the local festivities in other regions and countries, unfortunately there are not many of them organised this days.

En la nube - In the cloud
Inside a cloud is how I found myself last Thursday's evening when I went to see the Serpentine Gallery Pavillion. It is made of thousands of metal sticks welded together, with some perpex circles working as roof slates and reinforced glass on the steps and upper levels . The impression is of a cloud, with changing density and texture wich adds interest specially when people are on the upper levels and appear floating through a lace like grid. Interesting to see how one of the visitors matched her dress to the surroundigs. More pavillions here.

One of the stands on the Festival des Metiers were showing how to make this necklace by folding and knotting one of their famous scarves.

Visit two weekends ago to the Saatchi Gallery to see the Festival des Metiers organized by Hermes. I saw something similar organized by them last year and I new they will not dissapoint. If anything it was even better as they had more artisans and tecniques : engraving, silk printing, tie making, leatherwork, etc. The exhibition is touring, it went to Madrid las year.

We saw the Chelsea Flower Show on tv, but got some Chelsea in Bloom souvenirs courtesy of one of the garden centres taking down the display they made for a shop taking part in the competition. I do not want to change their pots just yet so I had to do something to improve thier look in the meantime. A pair of scissors, some magazines and adhesive tape and this is the result.

Canalway Cavalcade 2013
Last weekend we went to Little Venice to see the Canalway Cavalcade. I like seem how brightly decorated they are, with all the painted pots, bunting and al the knots. I only enjoy seem them, I don't think I could live in one.

Topos, lunares y erizos de mar - Dots, spots and sea urchins
I like their touch fun, retro, whimsical and even clasical. Their colours : red, black and white and all the different sizes. They are everywhere at Selfridges, as part of the promotion of the artist Yayoi Kusama and her colaboration with Louis Vuitton. I don't know why but they make me smile and think of Minnie Mouse, the shop is a bit surrelist with its sea urchin skeleton's shape.

No lo vi completo pero no me perdi mis favoritos : London School of Samba y Paraiso School of Samba .
This year I decided to get a good viewing spot and left early. I managed to watch it from the first corner of the itinerary. I didn't see it complete but managed to see my favorites, the London School of Samba and Paraiso School of Samba.
A grey and wet sky made the colours even more vibrant.
Samba, samba
No todo el baile era samba
Not all dancing was samba

De corcho y agua - Cork and water
Last Tuesday we went to the Serpentine Gallery to see their latest pavillion, designed by Herzog & de Meuron and Ai Weiwei; the same team that built the Bird Nest at China's Olympics 4 years ago. More information about this pavillion and the previous ones here. A tradition that has already appeared on these pages.

Por el canal - Around the canal

Sunday saw us going for a walk around the Grand Union Canal enjoying the sight of the boat cavalcade. I am always mesmerized by the colourful barges, this time I also noticed some crochet tpieces in some boats.

Paseo inspirador - Inspirational walk

Yesterday after work I ran some errands for my sister. I don't know how I managed but ended up finding one crafty thing after another. At John Lewis, some colourful displays promoting Amy Butler's patterns and materials. Around the corner got the pattern for this lovely crochet capelet . Then to Selfridges where I saw the latest Dolce & Gabanna handbags embellished with crochet motives.
