The unexpected - Lo inesperado

 The unexpected happened in 2020 and lots of time was spent indoors. Knitted some socks to spent time, but then I broke my wrist and they had tobe abandoned until things get back to normal,like so many others.

Lo inexperado paso y hubo que cambiar habitos al tener que estar aislados. Retome el punto y teji unos calcetines, estos fueron los segundos, pero me rompi la muneca y tuve que aparcarlos hasta que se recupere.

I am cutting snowflakes to decorate the office at work. Still using t-shirt yarn, making handbags, this is my first one, without the strap/handles, as I have not decided what to add.

Circle crochet V stitch - Punto Bajo Centrado circular

An stitch that looks its best on extra bulky yarn, like t-shirt ones. I learnt to make it in the round with increases and sideways which looks like a whirlwind. It creates an interesting texture. These are the latest ones I made.

Esta variacion del punto bajo gana mucho con trapillo y lanas/hilos gruesos. Aprendi a hacerlo en circulo  y una variacion  redondo ladeado que encontre aqui , que lo hace mas interesante, parece un remolino. Estas son las dos ultimas bases que he hecho.

Joseph Franks exhibition

Recordando mi visita a la exhibicion del arquitecto y diseñador textil austriaco Joseph Franks en el Museo de la Moda y Textiles en Londres. Nadie diria que los tejidos aparecieron en los años 30 y 40, se ven tan actuales con tanto colorido. Descubri sus tulipanes  hace años en Liberty's y son fan desde entonces.

 Remembering the Joseph Franks exhibition at the Fashion and Textiles Museum in London. The designs feel timeless, an injection of optimism with such a riot of color. I came across his work years ago at Liberty's and became a fan, buying some tulip place mats which I regret gifting as I cannot buy them nowadays.

Ganchilleando con trapillo - Crocheting with t-shirt yarn

Probando nuevos materiales y aprendiendo nuevos puntos y tecnicas. El punto bajo centrado (enlace a video) que he usado en estas cestas es muy versatil, facilita el diseno pudiendo usar graficos de punto de cruz con la tecnica del ganchillo tapiceria o jacquard.

Trying new materials, stitches and techniques. Enjoying how quick the work progresses with t-shirt yarn also known as spaghetty yarn. This one is from Tiger and is very reasonably priced with plenty of stores nearby, a drawback is color availability which can be quite unpredictable. I learnt  crochet knit stitch/waistcoat stitch which is very versatile, it adapts itself very easily to tapestry/jacquard crochet designs.

Shibori in Portobello

A quick dash around Portobello last Saturday to buy some cotton ribbon ended up with this discovery. While there I came across this gorgeous stall selling Japanese Shibori stuff. 

Buscando el puesto de pasameria en el mercado de Portobello me encontre con uno nuevo vendiendo Shibori. Una tecnica de teñido japonesa, que algun dia aprendere, mientras tanto miro videos y paginas como esta.

Sigo recortando, como se acerca el Año Nuevo Chino y el que entra es el del mono pues eso monos por doquier. Mi  favorito es mama mona con su monito a la espalda.

PaPeleando

Sigo haciendo cosas con papel. Ahora aprendiendo a hacer kudusamas, son unas bolas de papel hechas con multitud de piezas identicas. Aqui las dos que llevo , la multicolor de doce piezas y la rosita de 30. Llevan su tiempo, mas que nada al montarlas. Paper Thanks - Gracias de papel

A few days ago I was giving a present and a card to say thank you. It occurred to me to merge them both and this is the result. A "Thank You" message written down with origami letters, in this case the ones from Jo Nakasima found online here.

Hace poco regale algo a modo de gracias, pero pense que quizas seria una buena idea añadir el mensaje al paquete. Pero como mi caligrafia deja algo que desear recorde el alfabeto de origami que creo Jo Nakasima y me puse manos a la obra.

Ando entretenida estos dias, cortando, armando y pegando corazones, de todos los colores y formas. Los descubri hace un año, pero no fue hasta que me regalaron uno que aprendi a hacerlos. Aunque he de confesar que tambien me ayudaron estas paginas y videos.

Esta Navidad pasada me dio por hacer mis propias decoraciones. En mi caso estrellas, una de mis favoritas la Froebel. Y no contenta con la version oficial decidi probar con otros materiales. Claro que del dicho al hecho va mucho trecho y la version con cinta de envolver con alambre en la orilla no solo es imposible de hacer sino que ni siquiera es bonita . En fin haciendo y aprendiendo. Para aprender recomiendo estos tutoriales y videos.

Last Christmas I made many stars to decorate home with. One of my favorite designs is the Froebel star, and after making several I decide to try new materials. I went for wrapping ribbon, the organza type with wired edge, well the idea sounded good but that was the only good thing about it. It was difficult to manipulate and the result  did not justified all the effort it took. Better my earlier attempts.

Ganchillo por Paris - Crochet in Paris

Por mucho que una viaje y vea cosas nuevas, la atencion termina centrandose en cosas por las que siento predileccion.  Disfrutando el Museo Picasso en Paris las semana pasada, despues de tres visitas frustradas . Y mira por donde me encuentro con esta chaqueta a ganchillo que me encandilo tanto como los lienzos.

 I cannot help it  even when traveling and seen new places, people and ways of doing things, my attention is drawn like a magnet to crafts. Like this crochet cardigan I came across while visiting the Picasso Museum in Paris last week.

Halloween / Dia de los Muertos

Este año decidi celebrar el dia mezclando  las dos  variedades de la celebracion.
Recorte unas guirnaldas y hornee unas galletas con calaveras,  acompañandolas de unos dedos con masa depretzels.
Para completarlo me disfrace de Catrina, después de ensayar varias veces con unos videos. La cosa llevo su tiempo, pero como lo disfrute. 

This year I went overboard celebrating Halloween and mix it up with “Dia de los Muertos” , which I prefer. I cut a paper garland and baked some biscuits with the skull / calavera theme, I also baked some fingerpretzels.  Finished the whole thing with a Catrina makeup , which I learnt and practised with some online videos. I t was hard work, with some late nights, but such fun.

Rebozos

Y no para comer, sino para vestir que vi el domingo en el Fashion and Textile Museun con motivo de la exhibicion "Made in Mexico" . El rebozo es rectangulo de tela de una pieza que se usa normalmente sobre los hombros, tejido a mano que forma parte del atuendo tipico de la mujer mejicana desde hace siglos. Frida Kahlo lo dio a conocer internacionalmete como podemos ver aqui. .Lila Downs lleva un modelo con plumas aqui. Yo lo llamaria echarpe.Con 75 piezas a la vista, y secciones sobre la historia, tecnica, tradicion e influencia en el arte contemporaneo, el tiempo paso rapido. Me llamaron la atencion los flecos de los rebozos, que se hacen por otras artesanas las empuntadoras. Algunos son tan delicados como el mejor encaje. Otras fotos de la exhibicion aqui.

The Rebozo in art, culture and fashion was the theme behind, the "Made in Mexico" exhibition I saw last weekend at the Fashion and Textiles Museum . A weaved rectangular shawl which forms part of the mexican woman national dress which is still popular nowdays. Friday Kahlo wore it often and it appeared on her paintings.  Whith sections on its history, styles, craftmanship,  and its presence in contemporary art , it was a very complete and enjoyable visit. The fringes caught my attention with their intricate macrame work.

Empapelado - Papered

Que esta este video de Brother donde promueven su centro creativo en linea. El robot es de Rob Ives, quien crea animaciones en papel, su pagina web es de lo mas entretenida e imaginativa, Robives.com. Alli podemos comprar libros, kits o bajar algun tutorial. Sus ingeniosos mecanos a papel me encantan.

Thats is what I call a well papered video. Well more like an enjoyable, imaginative and funny video animation made out of paper characters. Rob Ives his creator shares more of his creations online at RobIves.com, where we have his publications, tutorials for sale and also share some of his projects, I love his mechanical creations.

Revoloteando cerca . Es lo que tiene pasar un dia en Brighton y luego visitar la Tate Modern para ver la exhibicion  Matisse The Cut-Outs, que no se puede evitar recortar algo con tema marinero.

 

Flying nearby. After a trip to Brighton Marina and viewing the Matisse Cut-Outs exhibition at Tate Modern, I could not help it and cut something with a certain seaside flavour.

Pajaro en mano - Bird in hand

Y es que me ha dado por los pajaros,  me gustan bastante como tema para mis manualidades. Estos de papel y metal, los hice ayudandome de este tutorial que encontre en Charcoal & Crayons.

Well not exactly, more like birdmaking. I like birds as crafting subjects, they are so cheerful. The top one was my first try, the rest came along the following day, with the help of  this tutorial from Charcoal & Crayons.
