All Hallows

Ayer de paseo por Knightsbridge me tope con esta fachada. Yo pensaba que la celebracion era solo para los crios, pero esto me hizo cambiar de opinion. Sigo pensando que prefiero la Noche de Guy Fawkes y sus hogueras.

I thought that celebrating this was something that kids did. Well I changed my view yesterday once I saw the lenghts that some people went to decorate their house. Personally I prefer Guy Fawkes Night and its bonfires.

Atrapada en el tiempo - Groundhog Day

Alargando el fin de semana repitiendo desayuno ritual. Una casa callada, aun durmiendo, lecturas al gusto y un te especiado con brioche en una ociosa mañana de domingo. Lunes con jornada de tarde en el trabajo, repito ceremonia. Pequeños lujos que no cuestan nada pero valen un monton.

Stretching the weekend by repeating a breakfast ritual. Getting up before the house wakes up, having a silent room while drinking my chai tea and read the paper's weekend magazine in an indolent sunday morning. Monday evening shift at work, repeat of the same. Life's little luxuries.

Sabado entre bebidas - Saturday among drinks

Sabado ocupada preparando bebidas, varios litros de limonada a la lavanda y probando esta receta para hacer limoncello. Una semana mas y listo para beber.

Busy Saturday making drinks, starting with 3 litres of lavander lemonade. The best part of it the smell that fills the kitchen afterwards, never mind the lovely flavour and pink colour. I also tried my hand at preparing limoncello with this recipe. One more week and it will be ready to drink.

Se acerca el primero de Noviembre y aunque no me gusta Halloween y toda su comercializacion, pero me encanta "El dia de los Muertos" y Todos los Santos. Asi que aqui van unas ideas para quienes tengan alguna fiesta .

En forma de cientos de grullas en la escalera Oeste y copos de nieve en los escaparates. Las grullas ya aprendi a hacerlas pero los copos de nieve me tienen intrigada. Busca, buscando encontre este video de Happy Folding con las instrucciones. With hundreds of cranes around the west escalators and snowflakes on the window displays. The snowflakes are a surprise as I have never seen them, a quick search got me this video from Happy Folding.

Me gusta el Furoshiki desde hace mucho tiempo. La idea de darle otro uso a las cosas era algo natural para nuestros abuelos algo que en la sociedad consumista en que vivimos parece haberse perdido. Basta un poco de habilidad para darle otro uso a un trozo de tela, en este caso hacernos una bolsa para llevar libros .


I like the funtionality and ingenuity of Furoshiki, the japanese art of wrapping things on cloth. There is a such a feeling of accomplishment in using something for a different purpose than it was originally made for. This book carrier is a beauty in its simplicity.

Hace unas semanas uno de mis escaparates favoritos fue invadido por pinguinos. Hoy la casualidad me llevo a encontrarme con otros por Harrods. Menos mal que alli tuvieron el detalle de poner un cartelito informando del motivo. Parece ser que hace 150 años los sastres Henry Poole & Co de Saville Row crearon el primer Esmoquin .Lately I keep finding penguins and tuxedos on window displays and kept wondering why it was so. Until today when I saw the display organized by the London College of Fashion at Harrods to celebrate the 150 year aniversary of the Tuxedo.

Mi lista de museos a visitar sigue creciendo, aqui va el ultimo que he encontrado. El Atelier-Musee du Chapeau , creado en 1983 en Chazelles-sur-Lyon para preservar la memoria de varios siglos dedicados a la produccion de sombreros de fieltro. En su cenit el area alcanzo a emplear a 2.500 trabajadores distribuidos en 28 fabricas.

Una polifacetica artista argentina que empezo como coreografa de danza y estos dias tambien utiliza la aguja como medio de expresion. Aqui podeis ver in video con una presentacion de la obra a cargo de la artista.

Papel Picado

Me gusta la forma como celebran el Dia de los Muertos en Mexico. Todo empezo hace 20 años cuando vi una exhibicion sobre el tema en el Museum of Mankind. Despues de ver este video me he animado y voy a ver que tal se me da el papel picado .


Ever since I went to see a Day of the Death exhibition at the Museum of Mankind I have been fascinated by the way they celebrate in Mexico. I like all that colourful cut paper. I think am going to try my hand at making my own "papel picado", after seeing this inspiring video.

Potingues - Concoctions

Llevo tiempo queriendo prepararme mi propio champu. Y en mi afan por encontrar recetas he encontrado las de otros productos de belleza. Y como soy una abejita que pica de flor en flor , el sabado pasado prepare mi primer potingue, una hidratante a base de cera de abeja, aceite de almendras, agua de rosas y esencia de geranio.

I am not happy with the way my hair feels after a wash. For a while I have been investigating preparing my own shampoo, and while doing so I came accross some recipes for other beauty products and thought about trying my hand at making them. Last saturday I prepared my first moisturizing cream, with beeswax, almond oil, rosewater and geranium oil. It has a few lumps but overall I am happy with this first attempt.

Ingredientes - Ingredients

1 cs (15 ml) cera de abeja - beeswax

6 cs (6x15 ml) aceite de almendras dulces - Almond oil

1 cs agua de rosas (la receta pedia originalmente agua de azahar) - rose /orange flower water

3 gotas de aceite esencial (yo use geranio) - drops geranium essential oil

Calentar la cera en un bowl sobre agua a hervor suave, removiendo hasta que esta derretida por completo. Apartar y dejar enfriar durante 5 minutos (si no lo haces te saldran grumos como me ocurrio a mi). Añadir el aceite de almendra, la mezcla empezara a espesarse conforme se enfrie y cogera un color crema. Verted el agua de rosas, las gotas de aceite esencial y mezclad de nuevo. Rellenad un tarrito y dejad enfriar media hora en el frigorifico antes de usar.

La mia salio con grumos, y algo espesa de mas pues la cera que use venia en tubitos, dificil de medir y quizas resulto en menos cantidad, la proxima vez me asegurare de que la cantidad es la correcta. Aun asi la he usado en el cuerpo y cara y me gusta como crema de noche .

Heat the wax on a bowl placed over simmering water, stirring until melted. Leave to cool for 5 m. Add the almond oil, stirring to mix it. The mix will thicken and become lighter in colour. Add the water and essential oil, mix again, spoon it into your container and cool in fridge for 30 m before using it.

Los que se encuentra una cuando sale de paseo, en este caso por Notting Hill Gate. Estos eran a ganchillo de malla y bordado.

Insomnio

Tres horas pueden dar para : un par de pulseras para la sobrina (mis primeras con hilos). Preparar una limonada a la lavanda. Hacer una colada. Terminando con una leccion pulseril para la sobrina.Rather than tossing and turning in bed, I used the time to : make a couple of frienship bracelets for my niece (my firsts), prepare some lavander lemonade and get some laundry done.
The bracelets proved a hit, with her. All is well that ends well.

Descubriendo artesanias - Discovering new crafts

A la vuelta de la esquina encontre el otro dia esta idea la mar de original. Una cesta cubierta con encaje de plastico bordado con moline . A la venta en una nueva cafeteria situada a dos minutos de casa que tengo que investigar mas a fondo pues estaba cerrada cuando pase.
A new coffee shop has opened around the corner from home, selling this unusual baskets covered in plastic lace embroidered with bright cotton thread. Who would have thought such great idea.
